1.5GHz, 1GB ram, 100GB SATA, and a DVD ROM all in a NES

Yes its possible, and yes it’s been done before, but I didn’t like the way many others have done it. I decided to try and top them, I wanted a design where at first glance the NES still looked like the original (without cutting a huge hole in the back like other designs I’ve seen). I have been working on this project on and off for the past few weeks, (mostly waiting for parts to ship, oh and my job kind of gets in the way) but finally I got the last part I needed today to power it up, so i pressed the power button and she was up and running for the first time without a single flaw. And I have taken pictures of the entire transformation, and plan on writing up a detailed description of the whole process. Just don’t expect it too soon, maybe next week, I still have a little more work to do with the dremel, plus that thing called a job…
My plans are to eventually have this site running on the NES (under Ubuntu 7.04), since my current server can hardly handle it.

Huh, where is everything else? I know the original NES PC had holes for everything, so no giant hole. But here…i dont see anything else by the VGA port. o.o

Like I said, I’m not completely finished, I was to excited to start it up, and didn’t finish making all the other ports.
I’m planning on modding the controller ports to plug the keybord and mouse into. and then where the previous audio and video ports were I plan on adding left and right audio along with s-video and maybe a few USB ports if I have room. and like I said before, on the back between the VGA port and the AC adapter port, I plan to add a cat5 port. within the next week I’ll be uploading more pics, and a vid or two.

Heyyyyy!! this looks like a very VERY insane idea, but if you can do it, please tell us too, I’ll try to find an old NES and make my own PC like yours.

Nice!
I’m planning on something similar too.
I will probably make a hole in the back (if i get too lazy for getting extension cables for all ports)
But anyway my idea is to keep the nes front intact, and have the nes controllers plug into the original ports and work in controlling the system (Freevo: Home Theater menu, fully controllable with a joystick such as a nes controller)
Yours will also outperform all my comps
I already got everything else than a nes. Here are my specs:
MSI micro-atx mobo
Celeron 701Mhz
384mb ram
20G hd
System is fully optimized, based on LinuxFromScratch (it just FLIES, boots less than 20s)

I cant wait for details on how to build this. I would also love to have a list of everything you need to do this. Also is there any way to rewire NES controller to work as mouse?

Did you get instructions and/or pix up for your NES PC up yet? I’m interested in doing this someday and am just doing some research at the moment.

Any chance on getting the date of the write up detailing how you did this?
I have been looking for the different ways people have their’s setup, and yours looks pretty good so I was hoping for a write up and some images.
Anyway great job on this.

Yes, please post instructions. It’ll make everybody that wants instruction happy *evil grin* and u probably get sued because they read your instructions and burned their fingers or something.
Anyway, good work on keeping the NES as original as possible. Makes it so much more authentic then other mods.
